Classification of the neurological disorders The neurological disorders mainly affect the brain, spinal cord and the entire nervous system. There are several ways of classifying these neurological disorders. The best way is to classify them, according to the affected organs. The broad classification of neurological disorders involves two main types. Those disorders that affect the CNS are the central nervous system disorder and those that affect the PNS are called the peripheral nervous system disorders. Brain damage can be classified, according to the specific lobe that gets affected. For instance, the damage can be occurring to the frontal lobe or the parietal lobe. It can also occur to the occipital or the temporal bones. Depending on the location of the lobe, the treatment measures are decided. The dysfunction of brain can also be classified as aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia, agnosia or amnesia. Amnesia is a very common form of brain damage. There is a complete or a partial loss of memory. Aphasia involves problem in understanding or speaking the language. Speech difficulties are seen in people with apraxia. Some people cannot even remember the names of people or will not be able to identify people, places or things. They are said to be suffering from a condition called agnosia.
Spinal cord disorders involve spinal inflammation. There can be disorders in the cranial nerve or autonomous system. Headaches, severe migraine problems, sleep disturbances, lower back ache, disc dislocation, Vertigo, dementia, dizziness and coma also comes under the group of neurological disorders. Meningitis refers to the infection in the brain meningitis layers. Epilepsy or other seizure disorders will also come under the neurological disorders. Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease or Autism is also well known to many people. A lot of research is being conducted in different parts of the world to find the treatment measures for these neurological disorders.
